"Port Hueneme Light, c1939.

This is a picture that shows the old Port Hueneme lighthouse prior to it move from the West side of the port's channel to the East. The second photo is the lighthouse actually being moved, on a barge, across the channel to the East side. This is where it was to remain, until it's demolition around 1941. It was subsequently replaced by the current, Art Deco, concrete structure, which stands to this day. The actual Frensl lens and most of the Light's mechanism is still original equipment, as installed before the turn of the century. Harbor Days, Inc. is trying to obtain access to the lighthouse, with buses to transport fair-goers to the light and back to Hueneme Beach Park, where the festival will take place. For a view of how the Hueneme Light looked back then, please check the web for the "Point Fermin Lighthouse", which was very similar in design (same architect) to Hueneme's. It stands to this day, but is not used as a 'lighthouse'.

Lighthouse circa 1874

Port Hueneme, once 'Point' Hueneme, is one of the oldest ports in California. It's first lighthouse, made of wood, was located on the opposite side of what is now the entrance to the Harbor of Port Hueneme in 1874.
In 1941 the old lighthouse gave way to a simpler, albeit a more utilitarian concrete structure, on the South side of the new harbor.

Still in use today, the lighthouse compliments the beauty of Hueneme Harbor!
